Uniform Policy
Pack 837, like St. Mark’s School, maintains that teaching boys about standards is an invaluable life lesson. Just like in youth sports programs, the wearing of the full uniform is a minimum standard for all indoor Pack activities, most especially all monthly Pack and weekly Den meetings. Uniforms are not worn for most camping activities however.
A full uniform policy eliminates any hint of affluence or privilege so that all boys participate in the program on an equal footing and status. Boys who purpose to wear the uniform improperly show a lack of respect not only for the program, but for their fellow Scouts who are upholding the standard. Properly worn uniforms also contribute significantly to boy discipline and thus make running meetings easier on the good people who volunteer to lead our boys.
St. Mark’s Pack 837 expects our Cub Scouts to wear their complete uniform with the same degree of pride as if they were a member of the St. Mark’s School or on any well-led sports team. (This includes tucking the shirt inside the pants.) If a family has a financial situation that makes the purchase of a complete uniform difficult, please see the Cubmaster confidentially for assistance.
Full/Neat-Uniform Policy Attracts Special Attention
Being one of but a handful of Cub Scout Pack’s in our region with a full/neat uniform policy, Pack 837 was asked to send four boys to represent all Cub Scouts at the annual Dan Beard Council Luncheon at the Duke Energy Center last spring.
The boys met not only Mr. Red Legs (the Cincinnati Reds Mascot), but also NFL and NASCAR legend, Joe Gibbs. Coach Gibbs graciously posed with the boys, entertained their questions and signed autographs.
Because our boys’ were so well behaved and neatly presented themselves, Dan Beard Council executives selected Pack 837 boys over this past summer to model/act in this year’s local recruiting commercial seen on local television this past month.
